Back to 2001 we go, just twenty-three years ago, (Wait, what..? That can't be right. More like "a few years ago".) Anyway, it's all carnage and mayhem as Jeremy Bane commits acts of atrocious violence on about twenty bad guys while in Manila. I keep thinking the guy will mellow into an armchair detective but he's sixty-seven today and still wreaking havoc whenever he can,
Ruffian was meant to be a substitute for con artist Rook in stories set after Rook's era. But Ruffian turned out to be much meaner, much more a gang leader, and frankly much less likeable than Rook was. She's also not as good at fast-talking and quick-thinking. Ruffian appears in three other stories (and gives a different backstory in each one). She ends up as you might expect when she pulls a gun on Johnny Packard (of all people).
The Bronze Ronin, Mitsuo Mikage, is actually an early character who exists mostly on yellowing pages of typewritten manuscript from many years ago. (Never you mind HOW many.) He only shows up in the modern canon once, and he's in jail at that. But he does develop a healing factor not far behind the Tel Shai level. Combined with a brutal fighting style, this allows him to give a tough time to Bane, Sheng or Tang Ming. When I've watched a few too many Yip Man movies in a row, i'll probably bat out a Bronze Ronin story,
As for Yokel Ono, I can't defend him. Like Squid Vicious and Babe Lincoln, he's a sign of my love for goofy pun names.
